Habitat Kids Yoga Teacher Training

Learn to teach yoga to preschoolers through teens!

After many years of working with kids of all ages, Habitat Yoga is proud to share our knowledge and successes with new, aspiring kids' yoga teachers. Our 3-day program is a comprehensive, intensive, and practical certification course. Join us to learn how to playfully and gracefully guide kids through fun, confidence-building, mindful yoga classes.

Ashley Ray, founder of Habitat Yoga, created this teacher training program based on her extensive knowledge of teaching yoga to preschoolers through teens. Along with several special guests, she will guide trainees through Habitat Yoga's method of teaching yoga to children and the techniques that will keep your students excited, engaged, and constantly learning.  

This training will include:

  • How to teach yoga to preschoolers, K-5th grade, middle schoolers, and teens
  • Kids' developmental stages and how yoga influences the developing brain and body
  • Anatomy & physiology, with a focus on child development
  • Yoga poses and sequences
  • Partner and group yoga
  • Class behavior management and safety
  • Yoga and mindfulness games, songs, crafts, and activities that help make yoga extra FUN!
  • Breathing exercises
  • Relaxation and meditation techniques
  • How to weave in the philosophy of yoga, mindfulness, and breath work in a way that connects with kids at every age
  • The business of kids yoga - how to structure studio classes, private sessions, family yoga, and bringing yoga into schools

Consisting of hundreds of yoga games, poses, songs, breathing exercises, meditations, class plans, and more, this manual will serve as your toolbox of techniques and tricks that will keep your classes engaging and fun!

42 Hours of Yoga Alliance Continued Education
If you are a certified yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance, this 42-hour course will count toward your Continuing Education Requirements. The course consists of 24 contact hours in the training weekend, 5 hours of observation in Habitat Yoga kids classes, 5 hours of participation in adult yoga classes, and 8 hours of required reading.

Prerequisites:

  • 5 hours of video observation of Habitat Yoga kids yoga classes.
  • 5 hours of participation in adult yoga classes at the yoga studio of your choice.
  • Trainees will complete a short review of each observation and participation class.
  • All observation and participation hours and reviews will be due within two months of completing the training, but you are encouraged to complete this prior to the training.

Required Reading:
* The Mindful Child by Susan Kaiser Greenland
* Positive Discipline by Jane Nelson, Ed.D.
Read and write a review of each book. Due within two months of completing the training.
